What’s in your bag?

18 Nov

So. We all do it. Keep a mountain of useless stuff in our bag, be it a handbag, gym bag, shopping bag, whatever.

How many of these do you have in your bag? One point for each:

  • tissues and/or hankies
  • hair band and/or scrunchies
  • receipts
  • hairbrush
  • comb
  • face mask (how long has it been there though)
  • plastic bag
  • leftover lozenges
  • wet wipes
  • button
  • perfume/aftershave/deodorant/breath freshener
  • old appointment letter
  • crumpled piece of kitchen roll
  • headache tablet box (box is battered and only one tablet left)
  • eyeliner with lid missing (nice mess)
  • nail file
  • 2p coin
  • pen with chewed end
  • pen lid but not from pen above
  • old shopping list from two months ago
  • a piece of paper with a phone number on but you have no idea what the number is for
  • a business card for gardening services
  • a takeaway menu with a page ripped
  • a long forgotten lipstick or lip balm

Need I go on?! So apart from necessities such as car keys, purse, money and phone do we need to keep all the other stuff in there?? We are all guilty. I would imagine most people have at least five things from the list above!

Thus, we all probably need to do a de-stash and get rid of unwanted items and have a good old clean. Especially in these times of uncertainty. Think where we leave bags – on the floor where people have walked, maybe on a toilet floor, on an empty seat beside us on a bus where people have sat or had their feet, and so on. Then we put them on tables and worktops – where we may put food!

So we have a good old clean of our bags. But then, most importantly we ought to try to keep on top of the clutter in our bags and keep cleanliness to an optimum. I’d like to keep nice ‘friendly’ bags, not bacterial bug bags!

If you’re like me though, you have that many bags it’s hard to accumulate lots in one bag, but there may be one or two things in loads!! Oh sigh. Where’s a bin bag ………… ?

Postcards of Kindness

14 Nov

Some time ago I found a fabulous page on Facebook, Postcards of Kindness. It is such an amazing page I really recommend that you have a look: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PostcardsOfKindness

The group was set up so that care homes and residential homes who add themselves to the group could be sent postcards of kindness from members of the public. Admin also encourage hospices or hospitals to include themselves.

There is a spreadsheet of addresses to choose from and you can see who has or hasn’t had a card sent lately. You can also send birthday cards, especially to those who are turning 100! Wow what an achievement.

Imagine during times of Covid being stuck indoors, sometimes with no visitors, and then post arriving from around the country or indeed around the world, for you to read. These in turn can be passed round and be a conversation starter for the residents. There are over 41000 members of this page.

I took a favourite photo of mine of Whitby Abbey and used a company to turn them into postcards. Sometimes a home does post on the page, and you can see it! This does not always happen of course, this is not the purpose. But it’s still nice to see sometimes. Some people include their address and on the odd occasion receive a reply – this of course is not the purpose either but again is nice to receive sometimes too.

I even knitted a toy elephant for a resident – who I didn’t know and have never met – and the joy when I saw a photo of her with it will stay with me forever.

This is a great pastime for anyone but especially for children who are bored during holidays or lockdowns.

Go and have a look, you never know you may end up sending some yourself.

Introduction to Raquel

13 Nov

Hi all! I would like to introduce myself, I’m Raquel and I would like to share my views, opinions, thoughts, and so on on various matters, issues, products, places, whatever really! I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Healthy debate is fabulous although it would be lovely for everyone to be kind and have conversation in a nice manner, thanks!
